Hello all,
I have to admit, the outpouring of love for Mary from
so many, has been a continuing source of pride for our family. Mary was the
perfect audience for any musician. She dearly loved music. She told me on many
occasions that she was equally enamored of drums and the sounds they produced.
Last evening, I attended the spring concert given by
the instrumental music department of Stevenson High School, here in Sterling
Heights. I have been working with the percussion section since 1983. As part of
the concert last night, certain student soloists were featured. Two of those
soloists were my students. Jeff Skibo and Jonathon Jackson both did fine snare
drum solos.
At the end of the evening, Scholarships from the Band
Boosters were awarded to some of the participating students. Both Jeff and
Jonathon won scholarships. It was Jonathon's announcement that caught me
entirely by surprise.
As of last evening (Tuesday, May 14, 2002 - Brian's
birthday, no less) The "Mary Logsdon Memorial Scholarship" has been
established at Stevenson High School for worthy young musicians.
She is so proud, I am sure. She is so happy, I am
equally sure..... and she is equally embarrassed by the attention......
This amazing woman has had more impact on more people than I ever imagined. I knew what she meant to my family and me. She continues to amaze me.
I am holding my own, but there are times
when.................... Well, you know.
To all of you whether you are part of my family, or my
"family", thank you for your continued support and concern. It means a
lot.
Mark
